Thanks to the generous donations of reporters across the state and the hard work of the Texas Court Reporters Association, $11,505 was raised for the Texas Center for the Judiciary through the silent auction held at the Annual Judicial Education Conference this month.
Please allow me to introduce myself as your new 2014-2015 TCCRA President. First, I would like to thank Holly Bishop for professionally serving as our President this past year.
My career began in 1996, first as a freelance reporter with Dolores Stewart & Associates for twelve years, and now as an official reporter in County Court at Law No.1 for the past six years. I have absolutely loved both positions and cannot imagine a better career.
The court reporting industry is such a versatile field allowing us to choose from multiple career paths and earn a good living to provide for our family. We are highly regarded by our peers who recognize that a court reporter’s job is very important and highly difficult. We take the spoken work and capture history in the making.
Each of you should feel a great sense of accomplishment for being part of such an amazing field. This is why I am so excited to serve as President! Being a member of TCCRA has really helped me become more involved and appreciate being part of this great organization.
Keep your eyes open for invitations to some nighttime/happy hour get-togethers. I would like give everyone an opportunity to connect with this great network of reporters and really get to know each other better. It is encouraging to know that we have fellow court reporters we can rely upon to support one another and to ask questions, and who you know will be there for you, no matter what, when you need them. And believe me, when you need help, someone is always there for you. This is why being a member and being involved is so important.
As my first time serving as President, this will certainly be a learning experience, but I am looking forward to the challenge and the year ahead. Please feel free to contact me with your ideas, and please join us the first Wednesday of every month for our meetings in the lawyer’s lounge in the Justice Center, 5th Floor, during the lunch hour.
Be sure and renew you TCCRA membership for only $25 a year. Our membership year is June 1st through May 31st. You can get the application on the "JOIN" link.
My long-time friend and former official court reporter, Julie New, her daughter suffered from endometriosis for years before she had to have a hysterectomy at a young age, never getting to have kids. Last year, she started the first Endo Walk in Texas and was able to raise $3,500 for the cause. It is time again for the walk on March 22nd at S.J. Stovall Park in Arlington. ou can go to www.endowalktx.com and read her story, register for the walk, or just donate to a great cause. We had a great time there last year and this year promises to be even better. She has been able to get some awesome silent auctions items donated. Please mark your calendars to be there and help her help other young women not have to go through the pain she did.
The TCRA 75th Annual Convention is right around the corner. If you didn’t already know, this year it is in Galveston at Moody Gardens. We have a terrific line-up of speakers!
We also are having a student seminar at the same time. We have some excellent speakers to help encourage and educate our students across the state.
I went and visited at Arlington Career Institute and the Court Reporting Institute in Dallas. There were 18 students from among the two schools that expressed an interest in going. Each student registration fee for the convention is $165.00. I am asking for donations to sponsor these students. I have enough contributions so far to take care of 8 students. I would love to be able to tell all 18 that I have them sponsored! I have spoken to all 18 personally and these are ones that are dedicated to going. They have already made arrangements for carpooling down there and have their accommodations taken care of.
I would appreciate any amount of money you could give. If you let me know, I can come around and pick up a check from you.
Thank you so much in advance for your kindness.

Early voting has already started for the March 3rd primary. There are usually no lines during early voting. This is a very important election for Tarrant County and your vote really does count. You can even vote on Saturday and Sunday. Early voting ends on the 28th.
Our reception for the judicial and legislative candidates last night was quite a success with a huge showing of candidates, elected officials, reporters, lawyers, family and friends. There were 32 candidates that spoke and gave everyone an opportunity to learn a little bit about them. We were honored with the presence of our TCRA President and President-Elect. We got many raving reviews from the candidates. The food was pretty amazing
